Get rid of turkey neck with plastic surgery

As we age, the quality of the skin on our neck decreases; it becomes soft, sags, and can accumulate fat, what is known as the "turkey neck" look. These effects can completely change the appearance and contour of the face, leading to an aging face - the person looks older than they are.

The purpose of neck lift surgery is to reduce excess skin, give precision to the contour of the neck and remove excess fat from underneath and to the sides. In this way, the aim is to achieve better-defined jawlines and a more youthful-looking neck.

How is neck lift surgery performed?

The neck lift procedure is recommended even for those patients who do not want a surgical lift under general anesthesia. The surgery can be performed under local anesthesia with the use of a video camera and radiofrequency for an optimal result.

Liposuction of the fatty layer is initially performed, then incisions are made under the chin to reposition the enlarged muscle fibers. Finally, some of the excess skin is removed.

The result of the surgery is superior; the younger the patient is, the more elastic the skin, and the more the body weight is within normal limits (a fat-infested face does not have spectacular benefits).

What is the recovery time after a neck lift?

After the surgery, it is recommended to wear a special elastic bandage for 10-14 days so that the shape of the neck is reconfigured.

Patients are prescribed analgesic medication to minimize any discomfort and are usually able to resume normal activities in about two weeks after surgery, and in 3 to 6 months, your facial expression and skin sensitivity will be fully restored.

Who is the ideal neck lift surgery candidate?

The best candidates for a neck lift are non-smokers who do not consume alcohol, are in good general health both physically and mentally, who show emotional maturity, and fully understand the risks and the results that can be achieved.

Eligible candidates must have a strong facial bone structure, and the skin, although sagging, must not have lost its elasticity.

People suffering from chronic diseases, high blood pressure, blood clotting disorders, heart or lung diseases, obesity, high cholesterol level, arthritis, depression, severe allergies should not undergo surgery.

How to prepare for neck lift surgery?

It is recommended that you stop smoking at least two weeks before the operation and avoid medication and dietary supplements that lead to blood thinning.

How durable are the results of a neck lift?

The results of a neck lift depend primarily on certain factors: skin quality, skin thickness, elasticity, skin genetics, diet, hydration level, alcohol consumption, tobacco, hormone treatments, sun exposure, skin protection against UV rays, the complexity of the surgery.

The effects are semi-permanent, about ten years, as the skin aging process cannot be stopped.

Although the results of neck lift surgery are not permanent, it "slows down" the aging process for some time and restores a youthful "turkey neck" free appearance.
